United States Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx has announced the immediate availability of $2 million in emergency relief funds from the Federal Highway Administration to the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Mississippi Department of Transportation to help repair damage caused by recent natural disasters.
Tennessee will receive $1 million for a rock slide that caused damage on Interstate 75 in Campbell County. Mississippi will also receive $1 million for flood damage throughout the state.
“Our nation’s roads and bridges are the lifeline that keeps the economy moving,” said Foxx. “These funds will help get repairs underway as quickly as possible and restore the connections for those living and working the affected areas.”
A major rock slide occurred February 26, 2016, on I-75, which served 35,850 vehicles each day. During this time of year, the interstate is an important corridor for travelers going to Georgia and Florida for the spring break. …(read more)
